Preparing Children for School Entry
For seven years, the School of Nursing’s Department of Family and Community Health Nursing has co-sponsored a clinic aimed at ensuring that children are ready for the start of school. The SON-Fan Free Clinic School Clinic is held in late August at the FFC and is staffed by students and faculty from the School of Nursing who complete all physical exams and school entrance forms. The FFC provides staff support by checking immunization records, completing required labs and administering required immunizations.
Over the years, more than 500 children from the Richmond area, most without insurance or health care, have been readied for school.
